Water, water everywhere And do you get enough? Inside and outside? Your body needs water. We are composed of about 60% water. If we were completely dehydrated, we would be nothing but a few founds of elements like calcium, copper, iron etc. We can live for weeks without food, but only days without water. The brain is composed of 70 percent water, blood is 82 percent water, and the lungs are nearly 90 percent water. Water is a lubricant, a messenger boy, a catalyst, a viaduct, a cushion, a thermostat and an air conditioner. It takes on many different tasks in the body of living organisms, plant and animal. In the human body, the blood, in which is the life, is mostly water. It carries the cells that carry the food and oxygen the body needs to survive. It carries the cells that form our immune system and fight disease. It carries out the toxins, impurities, and waste products made by the body to the large intestine and the kidneys where they are eliminated from the body. We need at lease 2.5 liters of water per day. Some of that we get from out food, some from metabolism, but most must come from drinking it. And we don't drink nearly enough. What our bodies need is water, not soda pop, not caffeinated beverages, not juice, not milk nor alcoholic drinks. What's wrong with these beverages? After all they are mostly water. It's the other ingredients that make them less than ideal. Caffeine is a diuretic. It flushes water out of the body through the kidneys. In the process, it also flushes out some necessary minerals such as calcium and potassium. The water is pulled from inside the cells. If we loose too much water, we become dehydrated. When the body becomes dehydrated, metabolism slows down, and electrolyte imbalances can occur, leading to a substantial decrease in energy levels. Alcohol works in much the same manner. Juices, milk, and sweetened beverages all have ingredients that must be digested, mostly sugars. This causes the digestive track to work overtime to metabolize or break down the beverage into its components and the water can be used. It increases the amount of time it takes for the water to get where it needs to be. Plain water is absorbed quickly by the body. The sugars also raise you blood sugar level quickly to a peak, then drops quickly. Sugar also helps dehydrate the body and can contribute to cramps and bloating while working out in the heat. Thirst is not a good indicator of whether we need to drink. We often don't get thirsty until we have begun to dehydrate. By the time you are feeling thirsty, you have already lost 16 ounces of fluid from your body. That's two glasses. You need eight to ten glasses a day. If you are exercising or working in the heat and perspiring heavy, you need even more. If you weigh 150 pounds and you lose as little as 1% or 1.5 pounds of water, your body temperature will rise. The more water you lose, the greater your chances of having heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Losing just 10% you your body water is life threatening. As your body temperature rises, the muscles fatigue sooner and exercise performance declines by 20% to 50%. Dehydration will make you feel stressed out, unduly fatigued, and lethargic after a workout. You may also develop headache, dizziness, and nausea which may linger into the following day. Getting acclimated to the heat means you need more water because your body sweats more efficiently. Drink water generously throughout the day. It is better if you don't drink water withing about 20 minutes before or after a meal or with a meal. Water, and other liquids, dilute the digestive juices in the stomach, and they must be absorbed first before the work of digestion can begin. If the beverages are very hot the stomach must cool them down. If they are ice cold, the stomach must warm them up, all of which increases absorption time. The best liquid to put in your body is water. Pure, plain, clear water, and plenty of it. Drink up! It's the best beverage on the planet.

Perhaps none of us have been in a situation where we were almost about to die from dehydration and a lack of water. Most people however, depend upon their thirst. "Oh, no, I drink enough water. When I am thirsty I drink some water." If you are like the average person this is far less than ideal. A person should get in the habit of drinking eight 8 oz. Glasses of water each day. However, much more is not harmful. A couple of decades ago, athletes found that it increased their stamina a great deal and so everyone from cyclists to marathon runners realized the importance of hydration. Like the planks in the old ship, the cells in our bodies can begin to dry up. When this happens salt, nutrients, and waste do not move freely and this can cause severe problems and even death. If a person is well hydrated they have a better sense of well-being. Like the old adage: There's nothing quite like a cup of cool water. We also know that brain cells are under a great amount of stress with dehydration because we've found that if a person is rehydrated too quickly, this can lead to convulsions and death. The lungs too are remarkably affected by the amount of water we take in. Tiny hairlike structures called cilia move in waves to clear foreign particles and irritants out of the lungs. If the person is not well hydrated, the mucus in the lungs becomes very thick and it is almost impossible for these little hairlike structures to do their job of sweeping the lungs clean of constantly collecting debris. The kidneys must have water. The kidney filters approximately 120 milliliters of blood per minute taking out most protein waste products. Physiologists tell us this is a marvelous thing, because not all the filtration units work at the same time. Rather they blink on and off like Christmas tree lights. This is not a passive thing as it requires a great deal of energy in the cells to do this work. An inadequate water intake forces the kidney to work under very harsh conditions. It will try to do its best but may wear out much sooner. The next organ we should look at is the skin. Frequently we don't think of the skin as an organ, but it is the largest organ of the body. It keeps the body at an even temperature by giving off excess heat in the evaporation of water. Without water, this is very difficult for the skin to do and you may overheat easily and develop a low heat tolerance. I've just begun to look at a few functions of the body and we see how important water is to each one of them. We have not talked about blood volume, the stomach, intestines, liver, the heart, and many other areas of the body which are dependent upon the adequate hydration in order to function properly. Many people do not drink water because they think they will have to constantly be running to the bathroom. Actually the body can readjust itself to a higher level of water intake and the person finds after a while that this is not a problem. The following list is from a website of how to treat migraine headaches with hydrotherapy, the use of water for treatment of illness and injury.
- rub finger tips on head, especially around the temples and the nape of the neck, after dipping them in ice water.
- soak feet in a hot foot bath with apple cider vinegar and peppermint, to draw blood down to the feet, cleanse the blood and cool it down (with the mint).
- for a severe headache, alternate applications of hot and cold wet, wrung out towels to the head and face. Always end with cold.
- hot hip bath, to draw the blood down from the head.
- alternating hot and cold hip baths
- ice pack to head
- some folks get instant relief by taking a cool enema, because often migraines are created by toxic wate build-up in the digestive tract.

Then God sends the rain and the sunshine and the clouds to cause vegetation to flourish. God works and man cooperates with God. Then there is seed time and harvest. God has caused to grow out of the ground, herbs for the use of man, and if we understand the nature of those roots and herbs, and make a right use of them, there would not be a necessity of running for the doctor, so frequently, and people would be in much better health than they are today. I believe in calling upon the Great Physician when we have used the remedies I have mentioned. In regard to manner of labor, we certainly need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. We might be very zealous, but it might be an unwise zeal, and serve to hedge up our way. Then there is danger of being so circumscribed in our work as to do very little good. Lawrence E. Armstrong, professor of physiology at the University of Connecticut, has specifically studied the effects of dehydration on cognitive skills, memory and mental stability. In one study, published in The Journal of Nutrition, both men and women were evaluated when mildly dehydrated. Women reported fatigue, difficulty concentrating, alterations in mood and headaches, while male participants noted increased anxiety and tension, as well as poor memory.
Drink up Yet we don't have to be at the mercy of dehydration and the subsequent health issues. A powerful tool for staying hydrated, detoxified and robust is found with water therapy - namely, consuming a good amount of water early in the day. Ayurveda has long recognized the benefits of the practice and named it Usha Paana Chikitsa, which means "early morning water treatment." According to Underground Health Reporter, a solid protocol entails:
1. Upon waking, immediately drinking four-six glasses (about 1/2 a liter) of room temperature, purified water.
2. Refraining from eating or drinking anything else for one hour prior to and one hour after the therapy.

Driving While Dehydrated Found To Be As Dangerous As Driving Drunk

(NaturalNews) With 68% of all vehicle crashes in the UK being attributed to driver errors, one may be inclined to improve driver education programs or come down harder on intoxicated drivers in order to improve safety on the roads.
Or, maybe they just need to be reminded to drink more water.
New research has suggested that drivers make more than twice as many mistakes when they are mildly dehydrated, and that even having as few as five sips of water per hour while driving is equivalent to being over the drunk driving limit. It turns out that those who consume only 25 ml of water an hour are involved in over twice as many mistakes on the road as those who are properly hydrated, which is the same amount of those who are driving drunk.
This means that whether you have 0.08% blood alcohol content, or 25 ml of water for every hour of driving, you represent the same risk to yourself and others on the road. This highlights an unrecognized danger in America, as over 75% of the population may suffer from dehydration, according to doctors.
In the study, published in the journal Physiology & Behavior, researchers carried out a range of tests over two days on male drivers using a laboratory-based driving simulator that included a two-hour continuous, monotonous drive with some bends, a hard shoulder, "rumble strips" and overtaking slower moving vehicles.
On one day, the men were provided with 200 ml of fluid on the hour, and on dehydration day, 25 ml of water an hour. Driver errors such as lane drifting, late braking and touching or crossing the rumble strip or lane line were calculated and compared for each condition. Results showed that during normal hydration there were 47 driving incidents, but when dehydrated, the number increased to 101, with the error rate increasing during the two-hour period and peaking in the last half hour.
Dehydration can also result in impaired mental functioning, changes in mood and reductions in concentration, alertness and short-term memory, say the study researchers. Considering that the brain is made up of around 85% water, it should come as no real surprise that dehydration can negatively affect its performance, which is critical when reaction times can mean the difference between life and death on the roads.
America's chronically dehydrated population at increased risk
With 75% of Americans estimated to not be drinking enough water, falling short of the 10 daily cups prescribed by the Institute of Medicine (which constitutes chronic dehydration), this is a major area of concern. Even more frightening, coffee cups and soda cans have been known to occupy cup holders in vehicles for decades, both of which contribute to increased dehydration. Combine these factors with purposely avoiding water on long road trips to avoid bathroom breaks in traffic and you have potentially multiplied the risk of accidents.
Even more alarming, the level of dehydration that was induced in the study was mild and could easily be reproduced by people with limited access to water over the course of a busy working day. What would happen if water was even more restricted, and coffee or soda were the beverage choices of the day? This is not an unlikely scenario, and it's safe to say that this pattern of fluid intake occurs on a regular basis.
Could this new research be the beginning to breathalyzers that measure dehydration, rather than blood alcohol levels? Only time will tell, but for now, keep your brain functioning optimally with pure, non-fluoridated water, and keep an empty container with a lid in case you get caught in traffic and can't get to that washroom.

(NaturalNews) The average American child is water-deficient from a very young age, while official statistics say that at least one-third of U.S. citizens don't get enough H2O in their systems. The people that do get enough actually rely heavily on other sources. Indeed, 48% of their total intake of liquids comes from soft drinks, food and other kinds of beverages.
For a species that starts off with 78% of their body made of water at birth, we sure end up hating it a lot. In fact, we've messed up liquid circulation so badly that our physiology is likely to send us hunger signals rather than thirst. What? Don't be surprised, but your body doesn't actually need food every time you're hungry. Some of us get so used to drinking minimal amounts of water that our bodies demand food instead, knowing that there are higher chances of getting some hydration that way. What happens when you don't hydrate enough If you're not big on chugging aqua, the first consequence you'll notice is that you go to the bathroom less often. Surprised? You shouldn't be. When human physiology doesn't have enough liquids to run vital processes, it starts squeezing the last drop out of everywhere it can. It begins with the colon. Consequently, when your body isn't getting enough water, you'll become constipated. Instead of eliminating the waste, your body starts hoarding it in the hope that there will be some water around there. Yuck.
Another way for the human body to eliminate toxins is urination. It's not called "number 1" for no reason. Our kidneys process an incredible range of harmful substances from our blood and send them on their way through urination. Not all water is good It is true that proper hydration can make your skin look years younger. This happens because when you lack water, your body will also start to absorb water molecules from your skin, making wrinkles look deeper and your eyes sink in their sockets. You may think that appearance is important, but your body thinks that your skin can deal with a few creases in order to keep those vital organs up and running.
What's most surprising for a civilization that's no less than a few decades away from veritable artificial intelligence is that not all water sources are clean and good. One concern is that most of us are drinking too much chlorine, fluoride or other toxic chemicals through potable water. A good water filter is an investment that pays off instantly. Don't postpone getting one another second, if you don't own one already. When push comes to shove and you can't afford a filter, excess chlorine can be removed if you add a bit of lemon or vitamin C powder. It'll neutralize it instantly.
Perpetual movement Even if we've become increasingly sedentary in the past 50 years, life is perpetual movement. Our blood moves around, supplying each and every one of our cells with beneficial substances, while taking out those harmful toxins. Food comes in and, as we speak, it's on its way out. Even our minds move, metaphorically. If we don't drink enough water (almost 3 liters for adult men and a little over 2 for women), things start to slow down. The more research I do the more I tend to agree that distilled is healthier. I am planning to purchase my first water distiller this month.
