Here is the prophecy from Zechariah 9 where it predicts a conflict with Syria, Lebanon (Tyre and Sidon) and Gaza and foretells the fall of the leadership of Gaza. Very interesting prophecy considering the events we see happening before our eyes.
Zechariah 9 1 The burden of the word of the Lord in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the Lord. 2 And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise. 3 And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. 4 Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. 5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.....
The word "Hamath" signifies a defense or citadel, and Hamath was situated in Aram (modern Syria), just north of Israel's northern border. Basically at the Orontes river area in Lebanon on the east side of the Beqaa Valley, and we know the significant in the news today of that region.

Zechariah 9:1-6
All eyes are on Palestine. They see all kinds of prophecies which, in their minds are fulfilling, but I believe satan's biggest deceptions will involve Palestine and he is drawing all eyes there, setting up all the building blocks to grandly display his last overwhelming deceptions and deceive, if possible, even the elect.
In Zechariah's day, these kingdoms were all very close to the returned Israelites, who were given another 490 years to embrace the covenant and see the first coming of the Messiah. These nations all had considerable influence on the struggling nation, that wasn't that good.
The prophecy may well show the ultimate destruction of the nations hostile to God's people.
The prophecy seems to correspond to the march of Alexander after the battle of Issus, when Damascus was betrayed, but surrendered to the Greek general. Sidon surrendered freely; Tyre, was taken after a 7 months' siege suffering great destruction; Gaza resisted for 5 months, was taken, and,'plucked up.'" Hamath so completely disappeared that for years scholars thought it never existed, but apparently it has been discovered. Ashkelon, was the oldest and largest seaport, it managed to survive Alexander quite well, and actually became quite a high influence Hellenized center, but was destroyed by the first crusade many years later.
The crucial question for us as we read those verses: As we await the second coming of our King and expect a time of trouble to come upon us, do we find ourselves depending on our own wisdom, resources and success, rather than on Christ's wisdom and resources, do we look on our own supposed power instead of depending on the power of Christ?.
Their great wisdom did not save Tyre or Sidon Neither their Strong Hold, nor their silver and gold could not save them either. Nor did Tyre's great marine power at sea save that great sea port.
