The point is that God obviously knew not very many people would choose to board the Ark. Otherwise, He would have instructed Noah to build a much larger Ark or more than one Ark. Or stopped the flood from happening. Once you enter into speculation involving different things happening, all sorts of things are possible. In the case of Nineveh, where many repented, God did the equivalent of stopping the flood. Also, knowing that "not very many people" would enter the boat is not the same thing as knowing exactly 8 would enter it.
Those who wait for the Bridegroom's coming are to say to the people, "Behold your God." The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love.
