Just last night I was re-reading before bed a wonderful and forgotten book by that fine scholar of Adventism, Taylor Bunch. In his 1953 book, "The Secrets of Godly Living" in his foreword, page 7 he begins:
"Genuine Christianity is known by it's fruits, one of which is happiness. Failure in this respect constitutes an indictment against the religion we profess. If the Gospel does not produce faith, hope, courage, and cheerfulness, and provide a complete remedy for the disease of sin, it is evidence of either a misinterpretation of its meaning or purpose or misapplication of its basic principles to the daily life.'
Is the heretical thinking on his part?

It's also an indictment against the God we profess.

True; we "take His Name in vain" when we do not have the joy of His salvation pouring through us. His name is His Character, I hope we all agree, and not the spelling out of His name, like sacred name afficiados claim.
