I was just introduced to the book of Jasher this week. I had never before laid eyes on it. As something of a chronologist myself, I have just spent a little time avidly reading it, and have already crossed paths with many errors in the book. Most of the clearest contradictions to the Bible are in terms of chronology, while at the same time, many dates and figures do match the Bible exactly. A few errors, however, have nothing to do with dates, but more to do with details. For example, the account of the flood does not match the Bible account in several places. And if we add Mrs. White's writings to the mix, there are still more discrepancies.
Daryl, did you ever read the book? If so, I'm curious what your take on this is.
Blessings,
Green Cochoa.
We can receive of heaven's light only as we are willing to be emptied of self. We can discern the character of God, and accept Christ by faith, only as we consent to the bringing into captivity of every thought to the obedience of Christ. And to all who do this, the Holy Spirit is given without measure. In Christ "dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him." [Colossians 2:9, 10.] {GW 57.1} -- Ellen White.

Interesting. I checked it out online. which one did you read? "Book of Jasher (Pseudo-Jasher). It is sometimes called Pseudo-Jasher to distinguish it from the Sefer haYashar (midrash) here which incorporates genuine Jewish legend." Link

I believe it's the same one others have referred to in this thread that I have been reading. It can be found at this site.
Blessings,

As best as I understand, the genuine book of Jasher was lost in the passage of time. These more recent versions have been generaly considered to be forgeries. (who knows)

Having done further readings from the book of Jasher, I am now thoroughly convinced that it is a forgery by a gifted novelista. It is so fictitious and salacious as to defy all reason, and does not match any sacred writings I have ever seen.
Some of the more exaggerated portions are much like a modern cartoon-movie. Jacob's sons, for example, are given super-human powers when fighting against multiple tribes and walled cities. They fly to the tops of city walls like superman, and when their swords are knocked away by their enemies, they scream with such force that it terrifies them and causes those battle-hardened warriors to run and hide.
The story of Abraham offering his son Isaac has the devil, among other things, creating a rushing river in the path in front of them, to keep Abraham from going through with it...and then the devil, appearing as a man, lies to Sarah in his absence, saying that Isaac is dead--which causes Sarah to go into such grief that she later dies of it before Abraham ever returns to enlighten her. We know, of course, that this is a patently false representation.
I certainly will not believe anything in the entire book from now on.
Blessings,
Green Cochoa.

It's interesting how one loses track of a topic, as I did this one.
In other words, I never did get into reading from the link I provided at the beginning of this thread, however, after reading the post, quoted below, it is obvious to me that, if there is a true book of Jasher, it isn't the one I linked us to.
