I don't know how many are familiar with NDs, like Drs. Rudy & Jeanie Davis, and MDs, like Dr. McDougall, both who are on Amazing Discoveries from time to time.
Dr. McDougall especially has a lot to say against prescription drugs, chemo therapy, radiation treatment, surgery (especially in connection with cancer), etc.
They say that prescription drugs, chemo therapy, and radiation treatment treats the symptom, but doesn't cure the disease.
Has anybody hear any of their videos, or seen any of their presentations on Amazing Discoveries, etc.???

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Here are a couple of interesting EGW quotes relating to this discussion thread:
Quote:
People need to be taught that drugs do not cure disease. (MH 126).
The cure could be wrought only by the power of the Great Healer, yet Christ made use of the simple agencies of nature. While He did not give countenance to drug medication, He sanctioned the use of simple and natural remedies. (DA 824).

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Though I'm sure there will be someone along who will complain that sometimes there is a benefit to harming.
Still doesn't contradict that all drugs harm.
If you have diet/health issue and want to get worse, take drugs. Otherwise, find out why and correct the cause.
I've heard some of McDougall's videos. I'm not sure I would agree with drugs "treat" the symptom. I would go with drugs "mask" the symptom.
Say you ate a large steak dinner, followed by ice cream. At 10 p.m. Then went to bed at 10:30. Then your stomach started hurting and may even have acid reflux. You pop in an anti-acid. You feel better and can sleep. Did the drug cure anything? One may claim it was "beneficial" since you "feel" better and could sleep. Sleeping is good. But by taking that drug, what else did it cause? The worse thing is disassociating your actions with your problems so you may be tempted to do such a thing again. But what about other things it may cause. How much harm it causes may be up to debate, but I would say it didn't "treat" anything, but only masked the problem. For the time being.
Later, you may need surgery. May get cancer. May have a host of seemingly unassociated issues. Of course, this may be confounded because someone who does the above, probably would do a whole host of other things.

On this subject: I was ask to give the health message for church once. I told how I used to mute all TV commercials until I became interested in what they contained. So, for a week I listened to them all. The first thing I noticed is that there were two main topics of those commercials. The first was pain relievers, the second was for lawyers wanting you to sue the makers of those pain relievers. Then I ask the audience, what is in the best interest of your doctor? To cure you or treat you for the rest of your life?

I know John McDougall. I've heard many of his lectures, in person. I have spent a week with he and his wife, enjoying both science and relaxation. He has worked among Adventists for much of his professional career. He is not an Adventist. They basically ran him out of town. Why? Simple answer: $$$. The Adventists wanted to treat the symptoms, not the disease. The money is in treating symptoms. The best thing to happen to him was to stop working with the Adventists. You can read part of his story in the book, "The China Study".
John knows the scientific literature. Treating the symptoms never cures the problem. This is not only in medicine, but in religion. What are the symptoms of sin? The 10C tells us. What is the disease? Sin. People look at outward behavior, which are only symptoms. But I digress...
If you would like to see an interesting video, one presented at the McDougall Clinic last year, it is a lecture by Dr. H. Gilbert Welch, an Internist and epidemiologist at Dartmouth, titles, "Over Diagnoses: Making People Sick in the Pursuit of Health". It is a sobering presentation.
Oh, that men might open their minds to know God as he is revealed in his Son!{ST, January 20, 1890}

Regarding chemo therapy and radiation treatment, I would say those "treatments" make the symptoms worse. The few people who chose not to do that to their bodies seem to do much better pain- and health-wise up to the end than those who poison, slash, and burn their bodies. While the end result usually was the same for both choices, the one who chose to harm their body suffered much more. People wait too long to make alternative choices from what got themselves in their present predicament, and the very few who do change direction, don't do it until there is no more hope.

This is a confession of an ex-pharmaceutical professional Rep who says basically that drug therapy is only to manage disease and keep people as a perpetual customer. That they are not in the business to cure people or to find any cures, but in the contrary to keep people coming back that keeps their business fleurishing. She recommend to exercise, change diet, and other simple things rather than being hook into drug therapy.
