It is a fact that in mountain ranges of western Canada the glaciers are retreating and some fear many will disappear.
I remember what they looked like 50 years ago compared to what they look like today, and the difference is very apparent.

These glaciers (especially the Columbia ice field) are the main source of fresh water rivers for a lot of America, so this isn't something to be unconcerned about.

When a glacier melts more snow and ice than it receives, it begins to recede. These glaciers are receding.

Now glaciers tend to move (coming and going over centuries of time) so is this due to global warming or is this due to some other cyclic phenomena governing glaciers?

I agree, dedication. I have also witnessed the receding of the Canadian glaciers personally, as I have done a fair bit of hiking in Canada's mountains. I could here tell miracle stories of God's protection as we hiked over hidden crevasses and slippery ice cliffs. (And I would not claim to be a "professional" mountaineer, as perhaps Mountain Man is.)

I've seen some articles in the news about how sandstorms and rocky avalanches have contributed to the receding glaciers, by creating dark spots in the white landscape that attract the sun's rays and heat. These then melt the ice. It has been my personal experience to visit boulder-embedded glaciers, and to see the danger of walking around them, for they create a void, sometimes several feet in width, around the boulders which have heated and melted the surrounding snow and ice.

Some might point to this and see it is a phenomenon that is separate from global warming that causes this, to which I would query in return, "Why are so many glaciers suddenly experiencing this same phenomenon at the same time?"

Let's go back to the basic principles of what atmospheric warming will do:

1) Generate winds (think sandstorms, jet stream, tropical storms, and all else related to wind currents, including tornadoes from the mixing of cold and warm air masses)

2) Increase evaporation and sublimation of water

3) Increase the capacity of the atmosphere to hold water

4) By a combination of the above principles, increase the total precipitation received on land (think dew, rain, hail, sleet, frost, snow)

5) On account of #4 above, increase the likelihood of flooding

The above points are almost incontrovertibly being proven to have had a greater impact in the most recent decade than for many years prior. Scientists can argue. The facts stand as silent witnesses.

And I don't think any is denying that weather changes. Across much of the U.S. there was drought last year. That has a direct impact on people. If glaciers receded and people are depending upon their water, that will have an impact on them. No one is denying that. But both of those facts do not mean that man has caused them or that it is even different than normal. "Normal" being defined long term and not based upon 30 years.

And that is the question! But given that glaciers have receded dramatically over much of the land, (it was halfway down the U.S.!), one would have to do much detailed research to determine if this is even a blip on the screen of history.

Interesting. Did you notice nothing listed between 2001 and 2011? So all you listed is some years have different things happening than other years.


And not to forget the New Madrid earthquake of 1812.

Does more snow match with less glaciers?

Seems like random speculations on your part.

Guess another good example of what models failed to predict.
