eh - read Nehemiah. Read William Miller. Read Uriah Smith. There is a clear description of what happened in the first 7 weeks. . .Hint - Read Daniel 9:25. Canadian eh? From Smith: In this case, 457 B.C. is our starting- point. Forty-nine years were allotted to the building of the city and the wall. On this point, Prideaux (Connexion, Vol. 226 I, p.322) says: "In the fifteenth year of Darius Nothus ended the first seven weeks of Daniel's prophecy. For then the restoration of the church and state of the Jewsin Jerusalem and Judea was fully finished, in that last act of reformation which is recorded in the thirteenth chapter of Nehemiah, from the twenty-third verse to the end of the chapter, just forty-nine years after it had been commenced by Ezra in the seventh year of Artaxerxes Longimanus." This was B.C.408. The text is clear though that the seven weeks relates to the coming of the Prince, and no Prince came. That no Prince appeared in 408 BC is not only a matter of history, it is also confirmed in prophecy. Ezekiel's prophecy declares that there will be no Prince until He comes whose right it is. So it is Messianic here in verse 25 because only the Messianic Prince can fulfill it - He whose right it is. Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

In my opening post for this thread I stated that the Messianic prophecy of Daniel 9 finds its counterpart in Revelation 7. I want to add here that Daniel 9 also has a further counterpart in Revelation 12. When you can, you may want to compare the full chapters. For now I'll quote the central feature: Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, Rev 12:8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Rev 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. Like Daniel 9, chapter 12 describes the conflict between the Prince and the Dragon, and like Daniel 9 it also has multiple fulfillments - Satan is cast down by the Prince before creation, he is cast down again at the cross, and finally he is cast down at the end when Michael along with the saints of God defeat him "by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony". Notice that at this third defeat the war, rather than being over it shifts into high gear because Satan is now absolutely desperate, knowing his time is short. How does he know that? He sees that the 144K have overcome him; he now has the final proof of the ultimate victory of Michael and His hosts, the saints of God.

The text is clear though that the seven weeks relates to the coming of the Prince, and no Prince came. Daniel 9:25-26 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and three score and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. The time to the prince is 7 weeks AND 62 weeks. And He came on time as predicted.

The time to the prince is 7 weeks AND 62 weeks. And He came on time as predicted. What we don't want to miss is that like Revelation 12's multiple applications to the casting down of Satan, in the same way there is more than one coming of the Prince because only the Prince has that unlimited power and authority to cast him down. In the overall context of Daniel 9, notice that Daniel is praying for the restoration of physical Israel, but He knows the issues are spiritual. So he makes earnest intercession with fasting and supplications for the Israel of God and I believe God heard his intercession for both physical and spiritual Israel, particularly the 144,000. It's when these are sealed that everlasting righteousness is established in the body of Christ. And so Daniel at the close of the prophecy is promised that he will stand in his lot and place at the end of earth's probationary days, that is, his intercession for the saints embraces spiritual Israel down to the close of time when they are sealed as firstfruits and everlasting righteousness is established in the body of Christ, His Bride. That's a wonderful thought to me that the prayers of the righteous like Daniel take on a timeless quality similar to the eternal sacrifice and intercession of Christ. That should encourage us to make the prayer of Joel our own and cry between the poach and the altar interceding for God's people as pictured in Revelation 8 - "Spare thy people O, Lord, and make not Thy heritage a reproach." In doing this we will by faith be joining in the spirit of intercession that animates the 24 living elders.

Actually, that's with the next prophecy. I think you are looking at the 70 years as segments, of which they are. However, they are contiguous segments, not segments to be lifted out and applied at random. There is one start date related to all the segments in order. If we are going to split segments out and apply them to what we choose, then we could take "in the midst of the week" and apply 3.5 years here, and 3.5 years there.....

Yes and no. I suggested above that the final week can be applied to the end without breaking up the 70 weeks because the prophecy can be read that way. That is, the last verse could be viewed as a separate, end-time week while the 70 weeks still ends in 34 AD. Another application that keeps the periods contiguous is that the full seventy weeks also applies to the end in real time. In my view, this one is the one to watch for.

At that time, "many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." "The wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand." Daniel 12:4, 10.
Maybe we should ask, what is the connect of Daniel 9 and Daniel 12? Adventists understand (on the most part) how the 70 weeks in Daniel 9 progress from the anointing of Jesus through the stoning of Stephen and to the gospel going to the world. But very few understand how the prophecy is repeated in the endtime. At that time, "many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." "The wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand." Daniel 12:4, 10. Know therefore and understand, [that] from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince [shall be] seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times (Daniel 9:25). The word translated restore also means to turn back (from God), apostatize; build is to be built up like a childless wife becoming the mother of a family through the children of a concubine; Jerusalem is literally teaching of peace; and messiah also means anointed; prince is ruler. (Jesus was the Anointed Prince, but in the endtime an Antichrist is anointed—the prince of the covenant.) Street is from the root enlarged. Wall is from a word that means: decision and moat; wall is past participle of decree. As I read it the endtime meaning of Gabriel’s words are as follows: Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the command to apostatize by the mother to the children teaching peace unto the anointing of the ruler shall be seven weeks and threescore and two weeks. This is enlarged: from the mother’s decree to the children, the time of anguish shall come again (Daniel 9:25 alternate reading). When was the endtime decree to restore Jerusalem issued? The mother church is the Roman Catholic Church, the mother of the Protestant churches that broke away from her. The Roman Church’s decree teaching peace was Dies Domini (the Lord’s Day). It links Sunday to peace in sections 1, 18, 26, 33, 44, 52, 67, & 73. Dies Domini was issued on 31 May 1998 (the 6th of Sivan on the Hebrew calendar ). The endtime fulfillment of Daniel 9:25—From the going forth of the command to apostatize (31 May 1998 Apostolic decree), unto the anointing of the ruler shall be 69 weeks. This time of anguish shall come again. For the 69 week time of anguish to come again, the 69 weeks must be doubled to 138 weeks. From the command to apostatize issued on Sunday, 31 May 1998, the literal 69 weeks doubled (138 weeks) ended on Saturday, 20 January 2001. The Protestant counterfeit prince of the covenant was anointed that very day. Who do you suppose was anointed on 20 January 2001? The 31 May 1998 papal decree was the teaching of peace that began these endtime 490 weeks. And after threescore and two weeks shall messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof [shall be] with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate (9:26 - 27). Threescore has been translated as six multiplied by ten. According to Strong, in certain instances the number can be added to ten rather than being multiplied by it. In the endtime, Daniel 9:26 is one of those instances. In the endtime, Daniel 9:26 is saying sixteen rather than sixty, because the historical match with fulfilled prophecy shows that the number six should be added to the ten not multiplying it. The word following sixteen in this text is two. That word two has also been translated as twice or double (cf Nehemiah 23:20 & 2 Kings 2:9; 6:10). Sixteen weeks doubled are 32 weeks. The word translated as cut off also means to fail. The endtime meaning of Daniel 9:26 is: after 32 weeks, the anointed Protestant prince shall fail. It happened as foretold! He failed to keep America safe on 9/11/01. Then Daniel says that he will confirm the covenant with many for 1 week. Covenant can be translated as Constitution. In the midst of the week (20 September 2001) he did away with Christ's sacrifice and oblation. Christ's sacrifice is the only atonement for sin. The oblation is an acceptance of Jesus as our personal savior. Christ's sacrifice on our behalf is useless if we do not accept Him as our Savior. Exactly In the midst of this endtime week (17 sept to 23 Sept, 2001) the annointed Protestant Counterfeit prince of the covenant spoke to Congress on 20 Sept 2001 (the exact midst of the week) to say: What are the GOOD TEACHINGS OF MUSLIMS? They teach that you do not need Jesus to be saved. Those GOOD teachings do away with Christ's Sacrifice and oblation. In the midst of the week, the anointed counterfeit protestant prince of the covenant did away with the necessity of the sacrifice and the oblation. But since presidents are not in Bible prophecy those who take that position won't have a clue that this abomination of desolation was followed by a prophetic event 1290 days later (2 April 2005) and several promised blessing 17 May 2005 (1335 days after the abomination was set up). Daniel says some will understand and some won't. His Child, how do you reconcile this application you make to May 31, 1998 with the original fulfillment. If the first one is right that ended in 34AD, and it applies to the Messiah, how can the second one apply to the anti-Christ? I agree that prophecy can have more than one application - for example the abomination of desolation - but to make the same one mean the opposite, how can that be?

One main difference between Rev. 12 and Daniel 9 is that Daniel 9 is a definite timeline -- a specified 490 year period pointing to Christ's first appearance.
On the other hand Revelation gives an over all picture of the Great Controversy spanning pretty much it's whole history.
The Conflict between Christ and His followers and the Satan and his followers
A. The early conflict between "woman" and dragon (vs. 1-5) B. The middle ages conflict (vs, 6) X The origin of the Conflict (vs. 7-9) B. The middle conflict (vs. 10-16) A. The later conflict between "woman" and dragon (vs.17)
A-1 covers the period before Christ's coming. The pregnant woman placing her hopes in the coming Child, which is the Messiah. And the Dragon (Satan) working to destroy that hope and even working to destroy Christ.
B -1 Focuses on the period after Christ's coming. Having failed to destroy Christ, the dragon turns on woman.
X Presents Christ as the victor over Satan. It does not specify any one time, but implies the full range, the important point is that Christ is the victor in the war.
B-2 returns to B -1 this time giving more details as to the war that would be waged against the post-cross church (woman)
B -3 takes us to the last part of that war.
However, the X or middle portion is the HIGH point which every reader of Revelation needs to take to heart -- Christ is the victor over Satan, and we need not fear the dragon when we are with Christ.
Daniel 9 is not such a over arching prophecy. It fits mainly into the A-1 part. -- The pregnant woman waiting for the Child to be born. It tells her the "due date" when the Messiah would present Himself. It tells us why He came -- To confirm or ratify the covenant of Salvation. Fulfill the prophecies of the coming Messiah. And bring in full provision for everlasting righteousness and to overcome sin.
As far as the time period of 490 years, which was given to Judea, and pointed to the coming of Christ, that is fulfilled.
Yet the RESULTS of what was established at the end of those 490 years, flows on. What happened at the end of the 490 years was the central point of human history.
The seventy weeks are fulfilled -- but what was established during that last "week" is still very much in existence. It's very true the results that stem from the cross continue until the consummation. There will be -- 1. Those who accept the Messiah, and embrace His covenant, living by faith, and partaking of His cleansing power to overcome sin.
OR
2. Those who accept the wrong Prince as their protector, yet he only brings ultimate destruction and abomination.
Yes, these two classes go to the end of time, when both evil and righteousness will be revealed. Yet we look to the next chapters to get more details, rather than playing pop-corn with the time line.
We don't reapply the timeline, those 70 weeks pointed to Jesus.

Charity, These relate to future events which will be disclosed in their order. Daniel shall stand in his lot at the end of the days. John sees the little book unsealed. Then Daniel's prophecies have their proper place in the first, second, and third angels' messages to be given to the world. The unsealing of the little book was the message in relation to time. {1MR 99.2} The proclamation of the 3 angels' messages focused on the time of 1843 and 1844 and beyond. Christ's fulfillment of Daniel 9 was almost 2000 years before Daniel was opened and the 3 angels' messages were proclaimed with force. And the vision in Daniel 9 was one of those given to Daniel while he was by the river... The light that Daniel received direct from God was given especially for these last days. The visions he saw by the banks of the Ulai and the Hiddekel, the great rivers of Shinar, are now in process of fulfillment, and all the events foretold will soon have come to pass. {16MR 334.2} For every truth, Satan has a counterfeit... Sabbath...Sunday trinity...three frog spirits Messiah...antichrist True Church...apostate church The truth will set us free, and in the endtime Daniel is revealing the truth about the counterfeit. As early as 1842 the direction given in this prophecy to "write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it," had suggested to Charles Fitch the preparation of a prophetic chart to illustrate the visions of Daniel and the Revelation. The publication of this chart was regarded as a fulfillment of the command given by Habakkuk. No one, however, then noticed that an apparent delay in the accomplishment of the vision--a tarrying time--is presented in the same prophecy. After the disappointment, this scripture appeared very significant: "The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. . . . The just shall live by his faith." {GC 392.2} Remember how it was in Noah's day: Men in Noah's day were not all absolute idolaters, but in their idolatry they professed to know God, and in the grand images they had created, their plan was to represent God before the world. The class who professed to acknowledge God were the ones who took the lead in rejecting the preaching of Noah and through their influence leading others to reject it. {10MR 372.1} Now is our time to prepare to meet Christ. God has given us this time, and if we use it in self-gratification instead of in crucifying self by sacrifice, we shall come up to the Judgment unprepared. In that day many will plead as an excuse, that they did not know that Christ's coming was near. But this excuse will not be accepted. They did not know simply because they did not want to know. God gave them abundant opportunity for knowing, but they closed their eyes that they might not see, and stopped their ears that they might not hear. Their one thought was to enjoy the things of this world. Like the people of Noah's day, they spent their lives in self-gratification. {ST, April 17, 1901 par. 15} The evidence is examined and explained in the Bible study available at Amazon [this book was printed 2/2/2018. in the printed edition, I will make it even clearer]: https://www.amazon.com/Highest-Loyalty-T...highest+loyalty
