In our newspaper today was an article entitled: "Mad Cow Restrictions to Include Cosmetics."
The FDA now is banning the use of cow "brains and other cattle parts" from cosmetics and dietary supplements. Also pet foods. The restriction prohibits the use of brain and spinal cords from cows 30 months and older to be used in cosmetics, pet foods and dietary supplements (I assume this to be vitamins).
So if the cow is younger than 30 months, his brain, spinal cord and other cattle parts can be put in cosmetics, pet foods and dietary supplements and be just fine. One wonders if they waited another month if the disease wouldn't show up anyway and if there isn't some kind of incubation period.
Another big reason to stay away from cosmetics.

The Body Shop and a few other cosmetic companies use products that are "not animal tested" and also use no human nor animal products in their cosmetics. These products, if any, would be a better choice.

Daniel, I didn't know you used cosmetics!
Seriously, I think to use none is the best for the skin to breath better.

Actually there is a large line of cosmetics for males, and their are items for various skin types. I do use different skin cosmetics especially after I shave. -cos·met·ic 1)A preparation, such as powder or a skin cream, designed to beautify the body by direct application. 2)Something superficial that is used to cover a deficiency or defect. adj. 1)Serving to beautify the body, especially the face and hair.
Is it wrong to use cosmetics?

Hi, Debbie! I'm so glad I read your post about Mad Cow Disease and cosmetics a safe amount of time after eating dinner! YUCK! With the exception of very occasional lipstick and blush, I don't use makeup anymore. Since getting married last year, I get to do the laundry and don't want to deal with washing makeup off my husband's shirts! He loves me the way I am anyway!! Denise

Denise, I'm the same way--my husband doesn't want me to wear make-up, he just doesn't like it.
Daniel, I think the use of cosmetics is a personal decision. I feel it isn't right for me to wear it but I can't say that for someone else.
I had to laugh when I read where you said there actually are cosmetics for men! What is our world coming to?
I believe for the most part, as christians, we do not need to wear make-up, however, for those who might have facial disfigurements or some other problems, they may have to wear make-up and I don't believe for these it is wrong.
Make-up is expensive and like mentioned above, not always healthy. I think most christians can put their money in a better place where it will do more good!

I purchased "cosmetics" for my husband a few years ago.... he has acne-prone skin & I found him a cleanser & moisturizer specifically designed for men with oily skin. The result? Much less of a problem, fewer break-outs and quicker resolution with daily use of the products. Make-up serves a purpose. I use foundation only when I need the SPF on my face. Otherwise, I use make-up to hide the fact that my son kept me up all night and to give my spirit a lift when it is sagging. As I used to suffer from depression I take preventative measures at the first sign of a low spirit, my teeny bit of make-up is a lot cheaper than the years of counselling & anti-depressants used to cost! My husband appreciates that I don't wear excessive make-up, only a small accent when I do choose to wear it and accepts that occassionally I have a need to feel better about how I look. Is there a better place to put my money? probably. There are probably things in each of our lives where we could spend our money better, but think of this next time you see someone wearing a bit "too much" makeup.... If I wear it to feel better about myself on a certain day, how must those people feel about themselves that wear it everyday, particularly those who wear large amounts?

Back when I did wear makeup more often, someone at church would say how nice I looked. Then on Sabbaths when the only makeup I wore was lipstick, they would ask if I was feeling ok!!! Yikes! I have no problem with the use of makeup if it helps a person improve their self esteem and it's done tastefully. One of the reasons I cut down on wearing makeup was when I started attending a church where they like to give hugs! I was always afraid of getting makeup on someone's suit or nice dress! Not a good thing! Better to get the hug and feel comfortable than to look "perfect"! IMHO Denise

New here. I use cosmetics, but not to decorate my face, but to cover up some very uneven skin tone. However, when I stay at home, I like to wear no "makeup" at all. I prefer cosmetics that are natural (shampoos, etc) and are good for my skin rather than a cheap decoration. I wear no eye makeup, just use a face wash and that's about it.
