Way to go lid0angel!! I hope you are working on your Pathfinder Christian Storytelling honour while you are at it!
Here's a story that I am planning to tell at my church at the end of this month..... It's a book, but I think it works well if you tell it as well.... At least, I'm hoping it does!
I'm also planning to accentuate the story by handing out bookmarks with a mustard seed laminated onto them. (Of course, if you disagree with me, you can at least enjoy the story!
) It is "No More Than A Mustard Seed" published by Arch books.... based on the story in Matthew 17:14-23
On the haystack Tobi sat.
His dove sat on his head.
Although the sun was shining,
He wished that he were dead.
"Come on, Son" called his father
"We must be on our way"
but Tobi covered up his ears
and crawled down in the hay.
Of course his father found him
and brushed him off and sighed
"No one's going to hurt you, Son.
You don't have to hide."
Then they set off down the road
(the dove walked right behind).
Tobi's father talked about
the miracle they'd find.
"This Jesus is a special Man" he said
"I know that's true.
He's made so many people well,
I'm sure He'll help you too."
"Oh, no He won't" said Tobi.
"He'll wave his arms and yell.
He'll poke and pinch and prod me,
but He won't make me well."
Then they saw the crowd aheaad.
"Let's hurry" said his father.
But Tobi sulked and dragged his feet,
it wasn't worth the bother.
"Is Jesus here" his father asked.
A tall man shook his head.
"The Lord's gone up the mountain,
can we help you instead?"
"I want my little boy made well"
said Tobi's father sadly.
"I've heard that Jesus does such things,
we need to see Him badly."
"Oh, we'll take care of that my friend,"
the tall man said and smiled.
"We've watched our master often.
Here, let me see the child."
Tobi turned to run away,
his father grabbed his arm.
"Come on now, Son, don't be afraid.
This man means you no harm."
Tobi tried hard not to cry,
his dove flew on his shoulder.
But though she cooed into his ear,
he didn't feel much bolder.
"Child, be well" the tall man said,
his face burned like a flame.
"I'm trying, Sir" said Tobi,
but still, he felt the same.
"I'm going home" he shouted.
"I knew this would be dumb."
Then all at once he halted,
Someone new had come.
Someone stood there in the crowd,
Someone strong and wise.
Slowly Tobi turned around
and looked into His eyes.
Although He wasn't smiling,
His eyes showed that He cared.
He cared so much that finally,
Tobi wasn't scared.
His father fell down on his knees
and begged, "Please, help my son!
Though Your disciples failed us,
with You it can be done!"
"Bring him here" said Jesus
and, as silence fell,
Jesus spoke again
and Tobi knew that he was well.
"I'm well!" he yelled, "See Father"
"You're well!" his father cried.
"Let's run and show your mother"
his smile seemed six feet wide.
But going home young Tobi
stopped quickly in the track.
"I didn't thank Him, Father,
I must hurry back!"
Back he ran, the crowd was gone
but Jesus still was there.
and all of His disciples
were tearing out their hair.
"We couldn't make him well again,
please, Jesus, what went wrong?"
Jesus sighed and sadly said:
"Your faith just wasn't strong.
See this tiny mustard seed?
With no more faith than this
you could move mighty mountains,
with faith you cannot miss."
Tobi thought, 'A mustard seed?
A mustard seed is small,
but maybe that much faith
is better than no faith at all.
Maybe it's a whole lot better,
sure it is! It's true!'
"Jesus, Jesus," Tobi cried
I have faith -- in You!
