Mr.Robertson also called for the assasination of the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. This man is definitely not one who is a Christian, but he does have alot of airtime and access to people and technology available to influence others. That in itself makes the possibility of a sunday law being thrusted forward a possibility. Weren't\aren't there laws in place for something like this? They were called blue laws, but I am not sure what the details were exactly. The bottomline was youwould go to jail if youworked on sunday. Strange days ahead. The Bible is not averse to anyone refusing to work on Sunday. There will never be a law requiring people to go to church all day on Sunday.

Darius, I found sometihng on the internet, and if its on the internet its got to be true! just kidding.. However I found it on wikipedia which must be taken with a grain of salt i.e. more research will be needed since anyone can add to it and who knows who did, and what I am looking for are photographs of those put on chain gangs as a result of these blue laws. I know I have seen it somewhere and completely forgot where now. From your position literally, what can you tell us about these blue laws? God Bless, Will

The Bible (obviously) isn’t the basis for Sunday worship. Your second statement though is where I disagree most. First, I guess you have a “technical” out by saying “all day”. But there have been laws requiring church attendance on Sunday. I’m not aware of any in modern times though. Never say never about the future. You haven’t experienced it yet. In the mid 80’s I would never have thought the Berlin wall would come down, at least in my lifetime. Events really happened fast that led to that.
But I can’t give a kook like Pat Robertson any credit for being able to seduce reasoning people. He’s just not that smart and not that smooth. He’s only seduced into belief those who would read and believe the National Enquirer. Whatever stage he may set, I don’t know. Never say never, but I think it will take a very credible smooth-talker to really set a stage.

Do you have a citation for laws of generl applicability requiring church attendance on Sunday? My mother had a law at home requiring church attendance on Saturday but that does not apply.

relatively not to long ago, there was a Sunday law in America with a death sentence attached to it. I believe it is called the Sunday Law of Virginia of 1605. The punishment for the first offense for not attending services in the Anglican church was a week's wages. the 2nd offense would result in the payment of a month's wages and the third offense would result in a death sentence.
in SDA history, I believe it was shortly after 1888, sunday laws were put into effect and guess which farmers got busted. Not Sunday keepers who happened to be skippping church to spend a little time in their fields. No, it was Adventists that were arrested and served time for not keeping Sunday.
"Ou land is in jepordy. The time is drawing on when its legistlators shall so abjure the principles of Protestantism as to give countenance toe Romish apostasy. The people for whom God has so marvelously wrought, strenghtening them to throw off the galling yoke of popery, will by a national act give vigor to the corrupt faith of Rome, and thus arouse the tyranny which only waits for a touch to start again into cruelty and despotism. With rapide steps are we already approaching this period. .. the there will be national apostasy which sill end only in national ruin.
It will be a threefold power which brings about the mark of the beast- spiritualims, apostate protestantism and catholism.
Satan works through the elements also to garner his harvest of unprepared souls. ... He will bring disease and disaster until populous cities are reduces to ruin and desolation. .. . He sweeps away the ripening harvest.

Who would have thought that the "Church of Jesus" would ever come to the point where it would be putting unbelievers to death? It happened and according to the book of Revelation it will happen again.
It will be of Satanic origin. Today, it seems like a sever case of paranoia, but in the GC it says "The Christian world will learn what Romanism really is, when it is too late to escape the snare. She is silently growing into pwer. He doctrines are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in the churchs and in the hearts of men. Character and aims of the Papacy, GC.

There is a difference between state law and federal law. Such a state law would not pass federal muster today.

Today, yes. Tomorrow is the concern though. Never say never about tomorrow. You haven't seen it yet.

The people of Nineveh did not surrender to "tomorrow." They changed it. We should learn from them.

There are 49 states that have "blue laws" in effect today. Some of these spans from requiring rest on Sunday to no sale of alcohol on Sunday, and even requiring a cretin amount of work on Saturday.
The only reason that these laws are not enforced (for the most part) is the fact that they are difficult to crack down on.
