By the way, the established tests of whether or not any person is a true prophet of God should also be basis in which you either say yes or no regarding Balaam.
I say YES, not on the basis of “tests” though. Although there is good evidence that God opened his eyes, so to speak, there isn’t complete enough information on him prior to his disobedience to fully apply scriptural tests. Instead, I just take Peter’s word for it. ;D

2 Peter 2:15,16 (quoted below) certainly does seal the fact that Balaam was a true prophet of God who turned bad. 2 Peter 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. Jonah was also called a prophet in 2 Kings 14:25 quoted below: 2 Kings 14:25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher. So here we have it. The Bible clearly states that both Balaam and Jonah were prophets of God in spite of what Balaam did and what Jonah did in response to God's request to Jonah to go to Nineveh and speak against it (See Jonah 1:1-3). If we had such a discussion whether or not Balaam was a true prophet of God, then we shouldn't be surprised over the discussion that may follow when we begin discussing whether or not Ellen White was a true prophet of God.

Was the doctrine of Balaam a good doctrine? Here it is placed in a negative tone. Can one pass from being a true prophet to being false? God is no respector of persons and Baalaam's history is is left on record to show that a prophet of God can be overcome. EGW, according to the books,manuscripts and ect. that I have read did not accept mammon and try to curse Israel [the church].

Balaam was a prophet of God who went bad.
He chose to entice Israel to sin so that Isreal would be cursed and he would become rich in this world's goods.
By so doing Balaam lost out in the next world's eternal goods.
Jonah also did a bad thing by running from God in refusing to preach against Nineveh as God had directed him to, however, after a series of unusual events, Jonah did do as God asked him to do.
