Here in New Zealand we are very excited about the very successful breeding programn for the Kakapo. This has just been announced this week, with a photo on the front page of the newspaper of the Prime Minister with a bird ready to be released, on her shoulder.

All 15 chicks that hatched were female. They will eventually be put into their natural enviroment, where otherwise they would not survive to adulthood.

The news tonight was not good.

They are saying that in 15 years time, there will be no kiwi living in the wild.

Now that would be very sad.
