Around 1990 between The Pas and Mafeking Manitoba, I had to stop once to let a cougar cross the road. I was so facinated with the animal that I parked my car and followed it as it walked parallel to the highway. Later on I picked up a hitchiker (Gabriel) who told me that there has been a recent increase in the cougar population in the area because fir trappers are going on to other professions. The small animals they used to trap are now plentiful enough for the mountain lions to live off of and increase their range. ------------------ As the Happy Moments Roll, Pastor Andrew ------------------ The cut and paste method works best as I have just done for you now. I did the cut and paste act so that you can re-read the first post to see what happened regarding Pastor Andrew's encounter with a cougar. __________________________ In His Love, Mercy & Grace Daryl

Thank you, Daryl. I thought that "cut and paste" was only for placing other's pontifications onto your own post before commenting on them. Maybe I'll practice this more. About the cougar--it walked parallel to the rode for a while before disappearing into the cambrian forest. Sorry, no icebergs and hounds in this story! ------------------ As the Happy Moments Roll, Pastor Andrew [This message has been edited by A. Marttinen (edited October 31, 2000).]

I'm not like the person a pastor once eulogized in Saskatchewan. He said: "Metro (a good "old country" name) loved nature--he went out hunting each fall." Question: If you love nature, why kill it? Out in the Northwest they can't see the cognative dissonence. Hunters are the most ardent nature lovers, especially if they can "take" the year's largest moose. ------------------ As the Happy Moments Roll, Pastor Andrew

I finally, for the first time ever, saw a mountain lion in the wild. It ran across the road as we (my dad and brother) were commuting to work. First time ANY of us had seen one in the wild, and we've worked and lived in the woods for 22 years now! We were more than excited.

I understand that it is very difficult to come across a Puma in the wild. They have a tremendous sense of smell--a documentary said that they could detect an odor over 2 miles away. I guess our only chance is when we're driving--unless it's a "maneater." By the way, Dr. Herr, a Biblical Archeologist from Canadan University College said that the Asian lions that were in the Middle East during Bible times (the type Daniel and David faced) were more closely related to the Mountain Lions of North and South America that the lazy, large-maned African Lion. He said that they've dug up the bones all over the Middle East to prove it (he showed a slide of this)! ------------------ As the Happy Moments Roll, Pastor Andrew

Kid & cat part-1 Before my daughter Suzanne was a teenager, she was walking down in the large wooded dirt pit below where we used to live in Alabama. She thought it was the neighbors dog Barney a large red bone/ black mouth cur. A big tawny colored dog. Not so, it was a 150+ lb cougar. She was smaller than it was and got back up the 20-30 ft bank & back to the house quick. Tell more later. ------------------ Edward F. Sutton [This message has been edited by Edward F.
