Zerubabel noted in Zechariah. Odd, hunh, this name always invokes a different thought! I didn't realize until recently it referred to Christ!

Genesis -

You'll have lots of references.

In my pre-Seminary days someone introducted me to the thought that every OT character had a thread in their lives that, weaved together with the others, made up the rope (or picture) that was Christ.

For instance, Enoch and Noah walked with God. David was a man after God's own heart. Joshua was the High Priest. Zerubabel was the leader of the return home from the Babylonian captivity (but he turned out to be a disappointment--none the less, he prefigured Christ spiritually and physically because he was an ancestor of Jesus and he was a ruler).

Thanks for that insight, I couldn't figure out where Zerubabel came from!

Daryl, I found Zerubabel through the other thread in the Life of Christ that challenged us to read Zechariah to find out what it said about the life of Christ, and I'm just not getting it - yet. In fact, I've got my friends digging into it with me to see if we can understand it together.

Anyway, it is in Zechariah 4:6-10 that Zerubabel is mentioned. Now that Pastor Martinnen has given me the background, it makes MUCH more sense to read those two verses together, because they are actually referring to two separate people. By the way, Zechariah is written in the same time era as Daniel, Haggai, and many other of the minor prophets!! Interesting, hunh. Ok. I've gone off track again, but I LIKE the minor prophets.

To get back on track, one of my favourite verses is Isaiah 9:6 "... his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." To me, this verse has provided much comfort in a life filled with trials, knowing that no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I have a Counsellor that is wiser, better and more knowledgeable than any other. A father, because I've never truly had one to rely on. Yes, our God is a Wonderful, Mighty God!! He can do anything. I like the names given to God because they not only tell you what to call Him, but they tell you who He is.
