Hi. I was riding the bus this morning and two young gentlemen were discussing this question. What, above all else, does God want from us? Please, post your answers with biblical backing and we'll discuss this! ------------------ Sarah Moss *Prayer Changes Things!*

The first thing that comes to mind are these verses: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:37-40

Luke 6:46-- But, why do you call Me Lord, Lord and do not do the things I ask? NKJV It appears from this verse, He asks us to do and we should do. The next few verses shows what he likens those who do what is asked to a man building on a rock and it stands against all opposition. Those that don't, build on the shifting sand, and when difficulties come, they fall.

Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest, take My yoke and learn of me for My yoke is easy and My burden is light and ye shall find rest unto your souls. So much for the memory work, something seems missing. I'll use online Bible. Matthew 11: 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ------------------ Edward F Sutton

This is the text that first comes to mind when reading the question: He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8. ------------------ The Lord is the strength of my life and my portion forever.

Sarah What bus were you on that you would hear such a conversation? Was it a public transit or private Christian bus? Not that it matters, I'm just curious...and it's just so unusual to encounter such conversations... My answer to the question that you have posed would be from Jer.9:23-24 "Thus saith THE LORD, 'Let not the wiseman glory in his wisdom; neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; But, let him that glorieth, glory in this: that he understandeth, and knoweth Me, that I am THE LORD which exercise loving-kindness, judgement, and righteousness in the earth: For in these things I delight, saith the Lord.'" ------------------ "The desert will rejoice and bloom as the rose...it shall bloom abundantly!" David, I was on a public transit bus!! And, I gained a great deal of blessings and comfort from listening into their conversation. God always knows what we need and gives it to us when we need it! A lot of wonderful answers have been given here! Linda, however, gave the answer given on the bus The gentleman on the bus went on to say that once we begin to love God and our neighbour, the others will fall into line. He read 1 Corinthians 13 (yes, out loud - on the bus!!) to further emphasize his point. He pointed out that we can do anything and everything but it means absolutely nothing (to our spritual life) if we do not have love. Please, let us continue this discussion. Are you in agreement with this gentleman's conclusions? Would you concur that he's got the beginnings of something? ------------------ Sarah Moss *Prayer Changes Things!*

Topic: What does God ask of us? The Father said in Matthew 17:5 “ This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him.” The Son said in John 3:36 “ He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting live; and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” How many of us that not believes the Son? How many of us that seeks righteousness by keeping the law? How many of us that tries to be qualified and fit for heaven by their efforts of holy living? Faith is fruit of the Spirit; love is fruit of the Spirit; longsuffering is fruit of the Spirit; gentleness, goodness, meekness, temperance, all is fruit of the Spirit! (Galatians 5:22,23). Righteousness, holiness and eternal life is God’s grace we received by faith.” (Philippians 3:9; Romans 3:21-24; Ephesians 1:4; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9). Then what does God ask from us??? “This is my beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; HEAR YE HIM.” “He that BELIEVE on the Son had everlasting life, and he that BELIEVE NOT shall not see life; but the wrath of God abide on him.” In His love James S.

What is asked of us? How about the following: John 15:4 "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. We are asked to simply abide in Him. __________________________ Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. . . . only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." And then a bit of advise is added. But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another. ------------------ And the second is like it . . .
